GOOD DAD BAD DAD

With Alex Alexander

Good Dad Bad Dad, is the one stop, blog  for Dad Diatribes, Parenting Parables, tips and tricks, Plus a place to read, hear and share …Real Stories, fatherly faux pas, fables  and relatable experiences -  From a storyteller, dad of 3 all-round nice guy … and parent Hacker.

One thing I know for sure is that there is No Such Thing as a Perfect DAD - The idea of perfection (not unlike time) is but another construct.

It’s hard to know if you’re doing the right things and making wise choices that will benefit your kids. It can sometimes feel like there’s no good answer for many of the parenting situations you find yourself in.  Being a dad of a late teen, tween and a six year old going on sixteen my parenting skills  need to adapt from friend, mentor, sage and everything in-between.

Luckily I’m not doing it alone my incredibly patient, all-knowing and wonderful partner (a.k.a  mother to my children) bears the incredible weight that motherhood demands whilst training me relentlessly to raise my game and be the best father ( I can be)  to our kids.

In parenting, as in life, perfection isn’t an actual thing.  I just keep doing my best while shooting for awesome and tend to land somewhere in the vicinity of meh… to OK! But my intent is always at 100%

I was a latchkey kid of the 80’s and early 90’s  ( Late Gen X)  and one of many who went through the all important, formative years as one of the least parented, least nurtured generations in history.

Having picked up my parenting que’s from TV sitcoms, old movies  or after school reruns of The Adams Family or  Full House.

The good news is I have some real life experience too that I’ve picked up along the way.
